Why? Because coaches are crucial for the success of any youth sports organization, league or sports based youth development program, LSA is investing in coaches and coaches training. We want to equip Lawrence coaches with the tools and strategies to be able to build positive, healthy mentoring relationships essential for kids’ positive social emotional learning gains. Coaches, unfortunately, in most settings do not have any training. We want to change that, and ultimately improve the quality of kids’ sports experiences and ultimately retention rates.
Coaches are the change-agents for successful programs/player retention. However, the Members regularly report inconsistent staff and unreliable volunteers as a huge obstacle, and since COVID-19 it has been more difficult to retain and train effective coaches. That is why LSA is committed to raising resources and expanding partnership to support regular sports based youth development trainings, prioritizing social-emotional support techniques to help coaches better re-engage athletes who are struggling with growing physical and mental health concerns.

In 2021 we partnered with We Coach, now Justice Through Healing for Sport, and the Members participated in a two-part Trauma Informed Sport session! We anticipate doing more with the CJTHS
